Woodcarving
My father’s work as a carpenter ignited my fascination with wood, whether it’s the acoustics of clarinets or the art of hand carving. I primarily work with hardwoods like boxwood. Interestingly, during a certain historical period, clarinets were mainly made from boxwood. Compared to today’s prevalent use of granadilla wood, boxwood produces a sweeter, mellower, and more compact sound. Some modern clarinet manufacturers have begun producing models in boxwood again, recognizing its intriguingly compelling acoustical properties that might enrich the world of sound. Additionally, some of my distant ancestors from the Serbian Mijak tribe in the Balkans were renowned woodcarvers, so this passion is a natural part of my heritage. My equipment primarily consists of Swiss carving knives from Pfeil.
