Biography
Mateja Milovanović graduated from the Zurich University of the Arts, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Music, a Master’s degree in Instrumental Pedagogy, and a second Master’s degree in Specialized Music Performance (clarinet). During his Bachelor’s program, he took courses with the Swiss conductor Stephan Klarer and attended a master class in choral conducting in Malta. He is currently continuing his professional development in education at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, pursuing a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Music, Movement, and Dance, with a focus on early music education and basic music training.
In addition to his studies, he is actively involved in music education and choral conducting. Since the beginning of his musical career, he has served as an honorary choir director and choir singer (bass). At the music school, he teaches clarinet and saxophone, as well as basic music education. In addition, he regularly conducts sectional rehearsals for wind ensembles and youth symphony orchestras. He is also active as a freelance chamber and orchestral musician.
His artistic focus is on classical music, complemented by extensive experience in jazz, folk music, improvisation, rock, pop, and church music—ranging from the origins of liturgical chant through the Classical period to the Romantic era.
His work as an educator is at the heart of what he does: he aims to foster a lasting enthusiasm for music, encouraging his students to discover different styles and develop their own musical expression.
In recent years, he has performed in various chamber music ensembles and collaborated with renowned artists such as Fabio Di Càsola, Ivan Podyomov, Matthias Rácz, and Bernhard Röthlisberger. He gained orchestral experience with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana, and as principal clarinetist with the Alumni Symphony Orchestra Zurich under the direction of Johannes Schlaefli. He furthered his artistic training in masterclasses with Mate Bekavac, Calogero Palermo, and François Benda. As part of the Paul Klee Ensemble, he participated in the recording of the live album “Ensemble” by Swiss pop singer Jaël at the Klangantrisch Festival. He is also a member of the Ars Excelsis Ensemble.
In addition to his musical activities, Mateja Milovanović also works as a professional photographer, painter, and wood sculptor. He views artistic development as a lifelong process and continually expands his range of expression across various creative fields.

Mateja Milovanović absolvierte sein Studium an der Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, wo er einen Bachelor in Klassischer Musik, einen Master in Instrumentalpädagogik sowie einen zweiten Master in Specialized Music Performance (Klarinette) erlangte. Während seines Bachelorstudiums belegte er Kurse bei dem Schweizer Dirigenten Stephan Klarer und besuchte einen Meisterkurs für Chorleitung auf Malta. Derzeit setzt er seine pädagogische Weiterbildung an der Hochschule Luzern fort, als Diploma of Advanced Studies in Musik, Bewegung und Tanz, in den Bereichen Musikalische Früherziehung und Musikalische Grundausbildung.
Neben seinem Studium ist er aktiv in der Musikpädagogik und der Chorleitung tätig. Seit Beginn seiner musikalischen Laufbahn ist er als ehrenantlicher Chorleiter und Chorsänger (Bassstimme) unterwegs. An der Musikschule unterrichtet er Klarinette und Saxophon, als auch Musikalische Grundausbildung. Darüber hinaus leitet er regelmässig Registerproben für Bläserensembles und Jugendsinfonieorchester. Zusätzlich ist er als freischaffender Kammer- und Orchestermusiker aktiv.
Sein künstlerischer Schwerpunkt liegt in der klassischen Musik, ergänzt durch umfangreiche Erfahrungen in Jazz, Volksmusik, Improvisation, Rock, Pop sowie in der Kirchenmusik; von den Anfängen der Liturgischen Gesänge, über die Klassik bis hin zur Romantik.
Die pädagogische Arbeit steht für ihn im Zentrum: Er möchte die Begeisterung für Musik nachhaltig fördern, seine Schülerinnen und Schüler dazu ermutigen, unterschiedliche Stile zu entdecken und ihre eigene musikalische Ausdrucksform zu entwickeln.
In den letzten Jahren trat er in verschiedenen kammermusikalischen Formationen auf und arbeitete mit renommierten Künstlern wie Fabio Di Càsola, Ivan Podyomov, Matthias Rácz und Bernhard Röthlisberger zusammen. Orchestererfahrungen sammelte er unter anderem mit dem Lucerne Festival Orchestra, dem Orchestra of the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana, sowie als Soloklarinettist mit dem Alumni Sinfonieorchester Zurich unter der Leitung von Johannes Schlaefli. Künstlerisch weitergebildet hat er sich in Meisterkursen bei Mate Bekavac, Calogero Palermo und François Benda. Als Teil des Paul Klee Ensembles wirkte er am Klangantrisch Festival bei der Aufname des Live Albums “Ensemble” der Schweizer Popsängerin Jaël mit. Zudem ist er Mitglied des Ars Excelsis Ensembles.
Neben seiner musikalischen Tätigkeit ist Mateja Milovanović auch als professioneller Fotograf, Maler und Holzbildhauer tätig. Er versteht künstlerische Entwicklung als lebenslangen Prozess und erweitert kontinuierlich seine Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten in verschiedenen kreativen Bereichen.

Mateja Milovanović ha completato i suoi studi presso l’Università delle Arti di Zurigo, dove ha conseguito una laurea triennale in Musica classica, un master in Didattica strumentale e un secondo master in Specialized Music Performance (clarinetto). Durante il corso di laurea triennale ha seguito corsi con il direttore d’orchestra svizzero Stephan Klarer e ha frequentato un masterclass di direzione corale a Malta. Attualmente sta proseguendo la sua formazione pedagogica presso l’Università di Lucerna, con un Diploma of Advanced Studies in Musica, Movimento e Danza, nelle aree dell’educazione musicale precoce e della formazione musicale di base.
Oltre ai suoi studi, è attivo nella pedagogia musicale e nella direzione corale. Fin dall’inizio della sua carriera musicale è attivo come direttore di coro onorario e corista (voce bassa). Alla scuola di musica insegna clarinetto e sassofono, oltre a fornire formazione musicale di base. Inoltre, dirige regolarmente prove di sezione per ensemble di fiati e orchestre sinfoniche giovanili. È anche attivo come musicista freelance in formazioni da camera e orchestrali.
Il suo focus artistico è la musica classica, integrata da una vasta esperienza nel jazz, nella musica popolare, nell’improvvisazione, nel rock, nel pop e nella musica sacra; dagli albori del canto liturgico, passando per il periodo classico fino al romanticismo.
Il lavoro didattico è per lui fondamentale: desidera promuovere in modo duraturo l’entusiasmo per la musica, incoraggiando i suoi allievi a scoprire stili diversi e a sviluppare la propria forma di espressione musicale.
Negli ultimi anni si è esibito in diverse formazioni di musica da camera e ha collaborato con artisti di fama come Fabio Di Càsola, Ivan Podyomov, Matthias Rácz e Bernhard Röthlisberger. Ha maturato esperienza orchestrale, tra l’altro, con la Lucerne Festival Orchestra, l’Orchestra del Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana, nonché come clarinettista solista con l’Alumni Sinfonieorchester Zurich sotto la direzione di Johannes Schlaefli. Ha approfondito la sua formazione artistica in corsi di perfezionamento tenuti da Mate Bekavac, Calogero Palermo e François Benda. Come membro del Paul Klee Ensemble ha partecipato al Klangantrisch Festival per la registrazione dell’album live “Ensemble” della cantante pop svizzera Jaël.
